Advanced functional testing

Get answers to what's really going on.

Standard blood tests often come back “normal” even when you’re struggling. DUTCH hormone testing, gut microbiome analysis, and comprehensive blood testing go further than your GP can, so we can build a plan based on your body, not guesswork.

Why go further than standard testing

Three tests, three different pieces of the puzzle

DUTCH testing looks at your hormones, gut microbiome testing looks at your digestive system, and a comprehensive blood test gives a wide baseline of your general health. These become available once you start working with me — I’ll always help you work out which, if any, is the right next step.

Hormones

DUTCH hormone testing

The DUTCH Test is one of the most insightful tools I use to get to the root of hormone symptoms. Unlike a standard blood test that captures a single moment, it uses dried urine samples collected over a full 24-hour period — giving a much more complete picture of what’s really going on.

If you’re dealing with PMS, irregular or painful periods, low energy, mood swings, acne, weight changes, poor sleep or low libido and feel like nothing has worked, this test can help us see what’s really going on behind the scenes.

What it measures
Reproductive hormones
— oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and how your body processes them
Adrenal hormones
— daily cortisol and cortisone patterns
Melatonin
— insight into your sleep-wake cycle
Oxidative stress markers
— a window into inflammation and cellular health
Gut health

Gut microbiome testing

A comprehensive stool test looking at the bacteria living in your gut, markers of inflammation, and how well you’re digesting and absorbing food. For clients whose hormone symptoms come with bloating, irregular bowel habits, or digestive discomfort, this is often where the real answers are.

Your gut plays a direct role in how your body processes and clears hormones — so an imbalanced microbiome can show up as a hormone problem even when the root cause is digestive.

What it measures
Gut bacteria balance
— beneficial vs. potentially harmful species
Inflammation markers
— signs of gut irritation or immune activation
Digestive function
— how well you're breaking down and absorbing food
Gut-hormone connection
— markers linked to oestrogen clearance and metabolism
General health

Comprehensive blood testing

A wide-ranging blood test covering 56 biomarkers, giving a detailed baseline of your general health alongside your hormone and gut results. It’s a useful way to rule things in or out, and to catch anything outside the hormone picture that could be contributing to how you’re feeling.

This is run through Medichecks, a UK clinical testing provider, with results reviewed together as part of your plan.

What it measures
Hormones
— FSH, LH, oestradiol, testosterone and prolactin
Thyroid function
— TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies
Liver, kidney & cholesterol
— full organ and cardiovascular health panel
Iron, vitamins & inflammation
— including vitamin D, B12, folate and CRP
Full blood count Full blood count
— red and white blood cells, platelets

“I’d been trying to fix my hormones for years but nothing worked. The DUTCH test finally showed what was really going on — it explained everything. For the first time, I had a clear plan based on my body, not guesswork.”

Common questions

FAQs

Is DUTCH testing suitable if I'm on the pill or HRT?

Some results may be affected — I'll guide you on whether it's appropriate and how to time your test.

Do I need to stop supplements before testing?

Yes — most supplements should be paused 5–7 days before testing. I'll give you clear instructions beforehand.

When's the best time in my cycle to do the DUTCH test?

For regular cycles, the luteal phase (days 19–21) is ideal. I'll help you find the right timing based on your cycle.

Do I need to change my diet before the gut microbiome test?

No major changes are needed, but I'll send you simple preparation instructions a few days beforehand to make sure your results are accurate.

Do I need to fast before the blood test?

It's preferable but not compulsory. I'll give you full preparation instructions, including timing around your cycle if relevant, before your test.

Can I do more than one test at the same time?

Yes — some clients choose to combine tests for a fuller picture, especially where hormone, digestive and general health symptoms overlap. We can talk through what makes sense for you.
