Low energy, mood swings, breakouts… sound familiar? These symptoms are incredibly common — but that doesn’t mean they’re normal. They’re often signs that your hormones are out of sync and could use some support.

Hormones are your body’s internal messengers, and when they’re imbalanced, you can feel it in every part of your life — from your energy and mood to your skin and menstrual cycle.

Let’s explore 5 common signs your hormones might need a little attention, and what could be going on beneath the surface.

1. Tired All the Time (Even After a Full Night’s Sleep)

If you’re getting 7–8 hours of sleep but still waking up tired, or feeling like you need a nap to get through the day, your hormones could be to blame.

Fatigue like this can be linked to low thyroid function, dysregulated cortisol, or poor blood sugar stability — all of which can leave you feeling drained even when you’ve technically “rested.”

What can help: Focus on balanced meals with protein and fibre, cut back on caffeine, and work on creating a calmer morning routine to support your cortisol rhythm.

2. Mood Swings

Feeling calm one moment and overwhelmed the next?

You’re not alone. Fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone — especially in the second half of your cycle — can affect how your brain processes serotonin, your “feel-good” neurotransmitter. This can leave you feeling emotionally up and down, anxious, or easily irritated.

What can help: Stabilising blood sugar, supporting ovulation, and managing stress are all key to calming the rollercoaster.

3. Jawline Breakouts

Hormonal acne often shows up around the lower face — jaw, chin, and neck — particularly before your period.

This is usually a sign of elevated androgens like testosterone, which stimulate oil production and can lead to clogged pores and cystic breakouts.

What can help: Supporting liver detox pathways, balancing blood sugar, and increasing fibre can all help reduce excess androgens.

4. Irregular Cycles

If your periods come too early, too late, or skip entirely, it may be a sign that ovulation isn’t happening regularly.

This could be due to stress, PCOS, under-eating, or thyroid issues — all of which can interfere with hormone production and balance.

What can help: Tracking your cycle, eating enough protein and healthy fats, and reducing chronic stress can help regulate ovulation.

5. Bloating and Constipation

If your digestion feels sluggish — you’re bloated after meals or struggling to go regularly — your hormones may be playing a role.

Oestrogen and progesterone directly affect gut motility, and imbalances can slow things down. Plus, poor digestion can interfere with oestrogen clearance, making hormonal symptoms worse.

What can help: Focus on fibre-rich foods, hydration, and daily movement. Supporting liver and gut health is key for hormone balance and symptom relief.
